Vision Health

Vision Health2

When a person has good vision, an eye exam is still very important to ensure the health of the eyes.  Many eye diseases, particularly glaucoma, do not affect a person's sight early on.  By the time a person noticed a change in vision, permanent irreparable damage would be done.  The best time to diagnose problems such as glaucoma and macular degeneration is before significant harm has occurred, when treatment and preventative measures can maintain your sight for a lifetime.

Also, many people who think that they are healthy find out about systemic health concerns by having a routine eye exam.  We can detect signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, brain tumours and many other problems by examining your eyes.

The third reason to have an eye exam is that we often get accustomed to the way that we see, and may not even be aware that we could see better than we do!  Headaches, eye strain, computer fatigue, glare, and night vision problems are sometimes accepted as part of life, but that is not necessarily so.  Dry, gritty or itchy eyes are other examples of complaints that people put up with when simple treatments are available to improve the comfort of the eyes.

Eye exams are covered under Alberta Health Care for children and seniors, and are recommended annually.  For healthy adults we recommend routine checkups every two years.
Each of us is given only one pair of eyes and it is our responsibility to care for them properly.  Using the most modern equipment makes the testing easy on our patients, and the staff and doctors at Prairie Vision Centre will make you feel comfortable and welcome.  Book your appointment today by calling (780)842-6123.
